Rams spoil Tigers’ opener

WESTFIELD – Southwick’s Josh Lis had a stellar day as the Rams spoiled Westfield Tech baseball’s season opener 12-3 Friday at Bullens Field.
The Tigers committed a half-dozen errors.
Lis scattered five hits over six innings, allowing just one earned run. He struck out five batters and walked two, and also went 2-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs.
Tyler Keeney (4-for-5, 3 runs), Bart Shea (2 hits, 2 RBIs), and Connor Roy (2 hits) contributed at the plate for Southwick, which got things going with a three-run fourth inning.
Dante Bongiovanni (2-for-2, double, RBI) and Cade Bradley (2-for-3, RBI) produced multi-hit games for Westfield Tech. Tigers’ Chris Boyden and Andy Daniels each had a hit.
Daniels allowed six hits on the mound. He recorded six Ks. Bradley had two Ks in two innings of relief.

Sci-Tech 8, Gateway 6

Anthony Piquette (2 runs, 2 stolen bases), Nathaniel Bushor (double, run, walk, hit by pitch), and Wyatt Heeter (double) each had a hit for Gateway.

Auclair homers twice; Gators chomp
Gateway 17, Westfield Technical Academy 4 (6 inn.)

Gateway piled up 15 hits to cap off a fantastic week, going 3-0. Ava Auclair led the way with two home runs, including a 3-run dinger in the sixth inning to invoke a mercy rule.
Grace VanBuren had three hits, including a double. Angela Wright and Steph Paiva collected two hits apiece for Gateway.
Audrey Gamble earned the victory on the mound for Gateway.
Westfield Tech
Cheynenne Slack made some defensive gems, robbing Gateway of a few hits, keeping Westfield Tech close for a good portion of the game.
Leilani Marsh doubled for the Tigers.
“They were gritty. I give them a lot of credit,” Gateway softball coach Matt Bonenfant said. “They did their best to stay in there. They hit the ball hard on us. We made some plays when we had to, but they did not go down easy. They played a good game as well.”

Bombers run streak to 5-0
Westfield def. Chicopee Comp 25-13, 25-13, 25-10

Westfield stayed undefeated, improving to 5-0 with a road victory. Luis Castro (24 assists), Shane Kiendzior (7 kills, 2 aces), Ryan Murray (7 kills, 6 aces, 2 blocks), and James Pavlyuk (6 kills, 6 aces) helped fuel the team’s fifth straight win.

BOYS TENNIS
Westfield 3, Central 2

Westfield’s Shane Halloway defeated Ethan LeBeau at third singles, 6-0, 6-3. Bombers’ doubles pairs Jimmy Knapik and Sean Mitchell, and Joey Burzinski and Donald Chang won by the scores of 6-0, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-2, respectively.
