WESTFIELD – Two very close high school baseball rivals renewed their rivalry, and this round went to the green and golden Saints.
St. Mary received a combined pitching performance from three hurlers and took advantage of some timely hits to defeat Westfield Vocational-Technical High School 7-3 Wednesday at Bullens Field.
“We finally found a way to get into a groove,” said St. Mary coach Troy Collins, whose team lost its season opener 5-2.
In that game, Granby jumped out on top 5-0 thanks to defensive miscues by St. Mary. The Saints cleaned up their act Wednesday, and it paid off.
Westfield Voc-Tech actually outhit St. Mary 9-8, but the Tigers committed two costly errors.
Matt Masciadrelli and Shawn Gezotis continued their red hot starts at the plate.
Gezotis went 2-for-3, connecting for his second double in two games. Masciadrelli, who went 3-for-4 against Granby, drove in two RBIs with a hit and sac-fly against Westfield Voc-Tech.
Ryan Gendron (RBI) and Jake Butler collected two hits apiece, Charlie White had a hit and an RBI, and freshman Steve McKenna managed his first varsity hit.
Colin Blake pitched the first four innings for St. Mary before turning the ball over to Matt Masciadrelli (2 inn.) and John Daley, who protected the lead.
Jake Parsons (3-for-3, double) and Nate Boulay (3-4, double, RBI) had nice days at the plate for Voc-Tech. Tigers’ Nick Clegg, Conner Hebda (RBI), and Tyler French (2 RBIs) each also had a hit.
Boulay struck out two batters in six innings of work on the mound.

Rams batter Smith
Southwick 19, Smith Academy 0 (4 inn.)
Southwick sophomore pitcher Emily Lachtara (12 Ks) tossed a one-hitter, and the Rams smacked Smith Academy.
Sydney Rogers (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored) and Tori DellaGiustina (2-3, 4 RBIs) each clubbed home runs, Sam Burzynski (3-3, 3 runs, 3 RBIs) and Jenn Yelin (3-4, 2 runs, RBI) belted three hits apiece, and, Katelyn Sylvia went 2-for-2 with four runs and an RBI.

Easthampton 30, Gateway 3
Sammy Dame (walk) and Kayla Priest each went 1-for-2 with an RBI to lead Gateway. Gators’ Gabby Dame also drove in a run.
