Saints give it a shot

WESTFIELD – It was not for lack of effort.
St. Mary peppered the McCann Tech goalie with 22 shots, and allowed just seven shots against in the second half but fell short 3-0 in a high school girls’ soccer game Monday at Westfield Middle School North.
“We just couldn’t find the back of the net,” St. Mary coach Andy Lussier said.
Mary Turbolski, Lexi Shedd, Bella Scarpa, and Madie Donais delivered a solid effort in the midfield. Sam Manchino, Jenna Turrini, Caroline Leahy, and Erin Olearcek took away several McCann scoring opportunities, and controlled movement throughout the midfield.
Allie Goodreau, Lexi Shedd, and Chloe Lussier made great passes and put good shots on net.
“Our failure to capitalize on those opportunities was just frustrating,” coach Lussier said. “I’m really proud of this team and the progress that they have made this season.”
St. Mary goalie Aisling Butler finished with 17 saves.

Pioneers shut out Tigers
Pathfinder 2, Westfield Technical Academy 0

Diana Solokhina delivered a solid effort in goal, making 14 saves for Westfield Tech.
“Our team had a tough time putting plays together tonight against Pathfinder’s defense,” Westfield Tech coach Lyle Washington said. “This loss doesn’t reflect how we’ve been playing the last few games.”

Lindsey Kiltonic scored Westfield’s lone goal. Erin McDermott assisted. Bombers’ goalie Lindsay Cousins finished with 11 saves.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Bombers, Purple Knights tie
Westfield 1, Holyoke 1

Westfield’s Dante White scored in the first half, and Holyoke escaped with a tie on a free kick in the final minutes with a perfect shot just under the crossbar.
Ian Saltmarsh delivered a solid effort in net.

Geddis’ hat trick propels Rams
Southwick 3, Hampshire 1

Connor Geddis recorded a hat trick, Nick Chambers logged eight saves, and Southwick earned a road victory.

Rams swept
Frontier def. Southwick 25-14, 25-7, 25-13

Mckinley White (1 double block, 3 kills), Monique Lemire (1 double block, 2 assists), Caroline Methe (2 assists, 3 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces), and Emily Lachtara (2 kills) contributed for Southwick.

Bombers chase ‘Cats
Westfield def. Sci-Tech, 26-24, 23-25, 25-16, 25-10

The Bombers wrapped up the regular season with a win.
