Saints start fast, finish strong

WESTFIELD – In every story, there is typically a beginning, middle, and end.
The St. Mary High School baseball team wrote the latest chapter in its storied history with a strong start and fine finish, upending Monson 12-3 Saturday at Bullens Field.
St. Mary burst out with five runs in the first inning, tacked on three in the fourth, and closed out Monson with four more in the sixth.
Jake Butler (3 runs), Hunter Authier (double, 3 runs, 4 RBIs), and Quinn Powers (home run, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) had two hits apiece for St. Mary. Saints’ Kevin Rockwal also had a hit, run and two RBIs. Jack Masciadrelli doubled, walked twice, and drove in a run.
Powers scattered five hits, struck out five batters, walked one, and allowed three runs in six innings. Matt Masciadrelli struck out two batters in one inning of one-hit relief.

St. Mary 11, Lee 1

Jack Masciadrelli (3 runs, RBI) and Butler (2 runs, 2 RBIs) each went 3-for-5 to lead St. Mary. Matt Masciadrelli (3 runs, RBI) and Rockwal (run, RBI) had two hits apiece.
Butler recorded nine strikeouts in a six-inning, five-hitter. Brady Collins had one K in an inning of no-hit relief.

JV RESULTS – Fri., April 19
Southwick 11, Chicopee 10

Sara Hough struck out 12 batters and homered for Southwick. Rams’ Devin Fox also had a home run.
