Saints storm past Red Raiders

WESTFIELD – For the St. Mary girls’ soccer team, it was truly a perfect storm.
All of the variables converged Thursday over Westfield Middle School for St. Mary Thursday. Allie Goodreau recorded a hat trick and assisted on two scores, and the Saints rolled over the Commerce Red Raiders, 6-0.
“Hard work over the last few practices paid off today,” St. Mary coach Andy Lussier said. “The team really came together today in all areas and controlled the game right from the first whistle. It was great to see things clicking and the girls moving the ball with purpose.”

St. Mary’s midfielders controlled the pace of play, supporting the front line and creating scoring opportunities. The Saints peppered the Commerce goalie with 32 shots on goal.
Goodreau scored on passes from Jess Crosby and Lexi Shedd, and tallied an unassisted goal, and earned assists on goals from Jess Crosby and Chloe Lussier.
Madie Donais also netted a goal. Sam Manchino assisted. For Donais and Lussier, it was their first goals of the season.
Manchino, Shedd, and Donais were solid in the midfield, receiving great supporting play from Payton Anderson, Mara Downie, and Mary Turbolski. Jenna Turrini, Erin Olearcek, and Emily Burke were strong on defense, limiting Commerce to just three shots.
Aisling Butler made a save in net, and put five of 32 shots on net, as well as delivering some great give-and-go plays with the front line.
“Aisling proved that she has skills as a striker in addition to being a great goalkeeper,” coach Lussier said.
Crosby also made one save in goal for St. Mary.
“This was a good win for us and the momentum will help with our upcoming games,” Lussier said. “These girls are playing with more confidence and are working really well together. It’s great to see things starting to happen for them.”

Gators nearly eke out win
Gateway 1, Easthampton 1

Gateway outshot Easthampton 15-3, and had 10 corner kicks to just two by the Eagles, but left the Eagles’ home field at Nonotuck Park tied.
With seven seconds remaining, Gateway took a corner and scored on a blast from Rachel LeBarron, however, the official blew his whistle to end the game.
Grace LeBarron scored for Gateway in the 15th minute.

Rams shut out Panthers
Southwick 3, Palmer 0

Lydia Kinsman (goal, assist), Carly Langdon (goal), Liz Tenerowicz (goal), and Maggie Sullivan (assist) contributed on the offensive end for Southwick. Rams’ goalies Tori Richburg and Hannah Gerrish combined for five saves.

Tigers caged
Smith Voke 6, Westfield Technical Academy 1

Tatyana Kirpicheva scored the lone Westfield Tech goal against first-place Smith Voke on a pass from Heather Lannon.

Rams clinch division
Southwick 21.5, Hampshire 2.5

Every Southwick golfer shot a solid round of golf at Edgewood Country Club, led by James Longhi’s 40. Bradley Durand and Chris Molta each shot a 41, followed by Matthew Garrity (43), Jagger Turgeon (43), and Chris Baker (43).
The victory clinched the division for Southwick (15-2, 11-0).

Willenborg paces Saints
Easthampton 17.5, St. Mary 6.5

St. Mary’s Luke Willenborg shot a 4-over 40 to lead all golfers at Tekoa Country Club.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Rams toppled PVC
Southwick def. Pioneer Valley Christian 25-9, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22

Chloe Emond (3 aces, 3 kills), Emily Lachtara (7 aces, 5 kills), and Caroline Methe (8 aces, 6 assists) propelled Southwick to a victory on the road.

JV GIRLS’ SOCCER
Southwick 5, Palmer 0

Five different players – Shea O’Neill, Eve Stetson, Mackenzie Sullivan, Bella Doyle, and Clare Hannah scored to lead Southwick’s JV squad. Camryn Hughes had two assists, and Maya Daley, Eve Stetson, and Clare Hannah each had one.
Daley (3 saves) and Hannah Gerrish combined for a shutout in net for Southwick, which improved to 7-4-2.
