HUNTINGTON – Better late than never.
What started out as a bleak outlook to Wednesday’s game for the Gateway Regional High School boys’ soccer team turned to euphoria late.
John Rooney scored with 98 seconds remaining in regulation to lead Gateway to a thrilling come-from-behind victory over visiting Easthampton 2-1. The Gators rallied for two second-half goals.
Easthampton scored on a quick strike 2:16 into the first half when Zack Crisafulli connected on a pass from Raphael Coleman.
Gateway finally found the back of the net on Jayden Marge’s score. Nick Cooper assisted on the play.
Goalkeepers’ Shane Mastello (5 saves) and Brady Parker (2 saves) combined to preserve Gateway’s victory. Johny Bara made seven saves in net for Easthampton.
Gateway improved to 2-1-1.

GOLF
Beauchemin’s 40 propels Bombers
Westfield 165, Belchertown 167

Senior Nick Beauchemin shot a season-low 40, and freshman Jack Hogan played a solid round of golf to help Westfield improve to 3-2.
The Bombers trailed by two points before Hogan’s score went final.

Longhi leads Rams
Southwick 17.5, Monson 6.5

Southwick’s James Longhi logged a team-best 39 Tuesday at Quaboag Country Club.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Durney, Renaissance top Rams
Renaissance def. Southwick, 25-15, 25-18, 25-17

Nahyska Durney delivered a solid all-around effort with 26 assists, four blocks, three digs, and one kill to lead Renaissance.
Briana Bourassa (6 digs), Olivia Diamond (7 digs, 4 aces), Ashley Consolini (4 kills), Caroline Methe (9 kills, 3 aces) led Southwick.
