Send me your poor, your tired . . . your news briefs!

HOPE E. TREMBLAY

This week, I’m putting out a call to action. Simply put, I need your news.

I need your calendar items, your press releases, your upcoming events. Basically, I need to know what you’re up to!

The Westfield News and Pennysaver staff want to share notices that are important to residents and businesses. We want nonprofit news, school fairs and donation drives, new employees, new products being offered and interesting tidbits about local folks and local places.

I remember way back in the olden days before social media, the newspaper was flooded with briefs. There were more faxes (gasp!) about events than we could print in a week. Over the past few years, between changing policies and social media posts, these submissions have been coming in less and less. But I’m here to say out loud – shouting it even! – that we want you back.

Send it all and we will publish as many of your briefs as we can between our daily and weekly papers. If you’re not sure where to send items, send them directly to me at [email protected]. And don’t forget to send your photos, too.

These are your community papers. This is your hometown news and we want to be your go-to source for all things local.

I would be remiss if I did not note that this week is Thanksgiving. Of course, I am grateful for my family and friends, that goes without saying but sometimes people need to hear it. So, just so you know, I’m also grateful to you. I’m thankful that we have people still engaged in newspapers and the important role newspapers have in society, particularly in a small-ish community. I’m thankful for you for taking the time to read this column and these newspapers each day and each week. And I’m thankful for my colleagues at The Westfield News, Pennysaver and all of Reminder Publishing and The Republican.

I will celebrate with a traditional turkey dinner,  some football and most likely a game of cards or perhaps Apples to Apples. It will be a casual day – we are not fancy people – and it will be perfect. I wish that all of you get to spend the day however you choose and know that there are people in this world who are thankful for you.
