Southwick DPW has new garage

SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Department of Public Works (DPW)
finally has new digs.
The town building inspector signed the certificate of occupancy for the new DPW garage, formerly Suburban Chevrolet, on College Highway.
DPW Director Jeffrey Neece told the Southwick Select Board Monday night that the department has been slowly moving in since the certificate was signed Nov. 22.
“Moving is going to be a gradual thing,” said Neece. “The first step is to get Charlie’s (Dunlap, emergency manager coordinator) vehicles in, and most of the water and sewer is moved in already.”
Neece said the project came in $29,000 under the $650,000 budget, with landscaping and fencing set to be installed this spring.
“The next step is to issue the card access and security codes,” Neece said. “We have them designated.”
Setbacks with inspections and changes to plans bumped the opening from its original target date in late August.
