WESTFIELD – The Westfield Starfires were defeated by the Brockton Rox on Sunday night in a 10-inning matchup with a final score of 8-6. Brockton’s pitcher William Gallagher earned the win and Westfield’s Vincenzo Camera was credited with the loss.
Offensive success on both sides made for an exciting game with a total of 25 hits recorded, 15 of which belonged to the Starfires.
Andrew Ciacciarelli, Danny Crossen and Thomas Joyce each had three hits on the night for the Starfires which gave the team some much needed momentum.
Brockton put three runs up in the first inning and the Starfires answered with two runs of their own thanks to four singles, making for a tight game early on.
After the quick runs in the first inning, the scoreboard would remain barren until the seventh when two runs came across the plate for Westfield to give them a 4–3 lead. Hits from Elijah Dale and Ciacciarelli helped to push those runs across.
The Rox tied the game up in the eighth, leaving the Starfires to chase the lead again. No more runs were scored in regulation and the game would end in the 10th inning as Brockton was able to rack up four runs on three hits.
Westfield made a solid effort offensively, scoring two runs to lessen Brockton’s lead with Ciaccirelli hitting a solo home run well over the left field fence. The Starfires attempt to grasp the victory ended up falling short, adding another loss to the season record.
