Status quo fine with Bombers

WILBRAHAM – While the colors of the opposing team’s leotards continue to change, the results remain the same.
Westfield knocked off yet another opponent – this time, in fact, two – defeating Minnechaug and Chicopee on the road Tuesday. The Bombers placed first at the Falcons’ nest with a score of 134.9 to improve to 3-0 this season, and run their win streak to 81-0.
Minnechaug (131.425 points) and Chicopee (128.025) placed second and third, respectively.
“We did a good job tonight,” said Westfield gymnastics coach Joanne Hewins, whose team was without two key gymnasts. “A couple alternates stepped up and did a great job.”
Westfield’s Taryn Hamel placed first overall in the All-Around competition with a 34.55. Hamel was first on the balance beam (9.2), second on the uneven bars (8.15), and second on floor (8.8).
Brendan Whitman finished first with a solid floor routine for a 9.0.
Westfield swept the top four spots on the vault with Kendall Neidig leading the way (8.55).
