SPRINGFIELD – Dmitriy Stepanchuk scored two goals, and Alex Makarchuk tallied another to lift Westfield Voc-Tech in its season-opening boys’ soccer road victory over Commerce 3-1 Friday.
Makarchuk notched the team’s first goal in the 28th minute on a pass from Laxmi Basnet. Stepanchuk made it 2-0 with a goal in the 64th minute. Dominic Rosario assisted on the play.
Commmerce bounced back with a goal in the 73rd minute. Three minutes later, Stepanchuk chipped in an insurance goal for Voc-Tech. Cole Provost earned the assist.
Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude credited Vlad Lisyanyy with a solid effort in his first career start at fullback.
“I’m extremely happy with the efforts from all (our) players,” coach Dulude said. “I am very optimistic for a successful season if the effort remains constant and we can stay healthy.”
