WESTFIELD – Westfield Tech avenged an early season high school baseball loss to Commerce with a good, old-fashioned rout at Bullens Field.
“All cylinders were firing today offensively and defensively,” Westfield Tech coach Bob Eak said. “(Our) team desperately needed a game like this.”
Westfield Tech pitcher Nick Clegg mowed down 14 batters over seven innings, and the Tigers blew past the Commerce Red Raiders 13-2 Thursday. He allowed just four hits and two runs, and helped himself out at the plate with four walks and three runs scored.

Chris Boyden (2-for-4, walk, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Alex Sparks (2-4, walk, run, 2 RBIs), Brandon DeGray (2-3, walk, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Andy Daniels (1-3, 2 walks, 3 runs, RBI), Dante Bongiovanni (3 walks, run), Darryl Reopel (walk, run), and Grady Jorgensen (hit) contributed on offense for the Tigers.

Mount Everett 12, Gateway 0
The Gateway Regional High School baseball team stayed within striking distance of Mount Everett for four innings Thursday, but just could not get over the hump and in the end tumbled.
Mount Everett scored one run in each of the first and fourth innings before exploding for five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 12-0 Mounties’ victory.
Mount Everett’s top three batters – Brendan Dempsey, Nikos Casivant, and Cavan Brady – combined for nine hits, three of which went for doubles, seven runs, and two RBIs. Tim Robtaille went also went 3-for-4 for the Mounties with a walk, two runs, and three RBIs.
Mount Everett pitcher Lupiani tossed a three-hitter, striking out six.
Josh Webster, Brett Bonenfant, and Wyatt Heeter each collected one hit for Gateway.

Bombers post shutout
BOYS’ TENNIS
Westfield 5, Sci-Tech 0

Westfield bounced back from a 4-1 loss to West Springfield Wednesday with a shutout Thursday.
Tristan Viale (6-1, 6-0), Lyle Libanan (6-3, 6-3), and Eric Unger (6-3, 6-1) won at first, second, and third singles, respectively, for Westfield.
Westfield No. 1 doubles pair, Matt Keefert and Matt Roberts win 6-1, 6-1. Sci-Tech forfeited second doubles.
Viale also picked up a victory in his match against West Side, winning 6-0, 6-0. With Westfield’s win on Thursday, the Bombers are now 7-2 overall.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Rams roll
Southwick def. Sabis 25-9, 25-13, 25-14

Chris Baker (1 block, 2 aces), Andrew Lachtara (8 aces, 8 assists), Chance Tang (2 aces, 6 digs), Nick Chambers (4 kills), and Nolan Labrecque (4 kills) contributed to Southwick’s sweeping victory.

Walsh nets 1,000th assist; Bombers clinch North
Westfield def. Chicopee Comp 25-20, 25-15, 25-15

Scott Walsh recorded 25 assists, including his 1000th career assist as Westfield improved to 11-0 with a sweep of visiting Chicopee Comp. With the victory, the Bombers clinched the North League title.
Shane Kiendzior (9 kills, 3 blocks), Ryan Murray (5 kills, 3 blocks), and Noah Kappel (8 kills, 7 aces) also helped fuel Westfield’s win.

SOFTBALL
Renaissance edged WTA in slugfest
Renaissance 23, Westfield Technical Academy 21

Cheyenne Slack provided the hot bat for Westfield Tech, belting a two-run triple in the first inning and a three-run home run in third inning.
Tigers’ Taya Allen finished with three hits, including a double and triple; Hannah Roberts doubled and had two RBIs.

Britland a hit
McCann Tech 12, Gateway 0 (5 inn.)

Gateway’s Dayna Britland broke up McCann Tech’s no-no with a base hit.

Sam LaBombard scored both St. Mary goals. Aaron Blanchard and Joe Walls each earned an assist.

JV BASEBALL
Southwick-Tolland 19, Sabis 6

Southwick’s Matt Tullo went 3-for-4 with a home run, Nick Brandoli went 2-for-2, and Nick Ensign pitched a complete game, striking out eight batters.

JV SOFTBALL
Southwick-Tolland 23, Ware 11

Sydney Gorman doubled twice, Sarah Hough (4 Ks) and Jillian Gentile (2 Ks) combined for six strikeouts, McKinley White finished with three hits, including a double for Southwick.
