WESTFIELD- The suspect in a domestic stabbing was found dead in his Chester home on Monday after a lockdown at Baystate Noble Hospital prompted a State Police search for the man.

Igor Kachur, 26, was discovered deceased in his Blandford Road household in Chester, according to a release from the Hampden County District Attorney’s office. State police believe Kachur stabbed his wife and then drove her to Baystate Noble Hospital after a domestic dispute. Foul play is not suspected in Kachur’s death.

Unsure of Kachur’s location, Baystate Health officials put the hospital into a precautionary lockdown for an hour and a half starting at 11 a.m. Sunday. Westfield police responded with state police and determined that Kachur was no longer in the area.

Westfield police responded to Baystate Noble Hospital due to the belief that there was a threat to their security,” said Westfield Police Captain Michael McCabe Monday morning, “When we arrived we determined that the threat no longer existed.”

Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the district attorney’s office, added in his statement that Kachur likely fled from the hospital immediately after dropping off his wife.

The wider search continued for Kachur before his remains were found in his home. State police used personnel from Russell State Police Barracks, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Massachusetts State Police K-9 Units, and Massachusetts State Police Air Wing.
