Tigers top Gators in thriller

WESTFIELD – Matt Wood, Tyler French, and Alex Stepanchuk each made key baskets in the final minutes to secure a thrilling 52-48 Westfield Voc-Tech victory over Gateway in boys’ basketball Tuesday night.
Johnny Haskell hit two 3-pointers, and Adrian Dziergowski nailed a shot from beyond the arc to pull Gateway within one point late before the heroics from several Voc-Tech players.

Tigers’ Tim Schevchenko was 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the third quarter, including two baskets.
Kenny Flores, Connor Hebda, Xavier Haskins, and Dennis Legodukh played solid man-to-man defense for Voc-Tech.
“I thought both teams played well,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “Both teams made shots and stops to keep the game close.”
The Tigers’ victory sealed a 1-1 series meeting this season.
“They got us the first time around, we got them this time around,” Dulude said. “A lot of respect goes out to both teams for two exciting match-ups this year.”
