Tourney approach

WESTFIELD – Tournament time is fast approaching and one local high school sports team is closer to the ultimate prize.
Sarah Hough scored two goals, and Emily Martin had a hand in three as the Southwick-Tolland Regional Rams toppled the Westfield Bombers 3-0 Thursday in the Whip City.
Emily Martin tallied one goal and assisted on two others.
Southwick goalie Clare Stratton made 8 saves, recording a shutout and her 100th career save in the process. Westfield keeper Gwen Smith finished with 11.
With the victory, Southwick (9-3) qualified for the Western Massachusetts postseason.
In JV action, Southwick fell to Westfield 5-1. Marissa Ouellette scored the Rams’ lone goal. No further information was available.

Tigers bounce back
Westfield Technical Academy 2, Hampden Charter School of Science 0

Bodhi Hall and Yeremy Kovylyak scored one goal apiece and Anatoly Suprunchuk posted a shutout in net for Westfield Tech.
Hall scored the first goal on a pass from Daryl Reopel. Kovylyak put forth a great individual effort to make it 2-0.
The opposing goalie made a save on a breakaway attempt from Kovylyak just two minutes before his score. Kovylyak remained steadfast, beating two defenders at midfield and converting on his second attempts.
Suprunchuk (14 saves) recorded a shutout in net, making a key stop on a breakaway attempt shortly before Kovylyak’s breakaway.
“He was really tested a few times and played great,” Westfield Tech coach Kyle Dulude said about his star keeper.
It was a nice bounce back effort for Westfield Tech, which was coming off its first loss of the season, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Easthampton Eagles. The Tigers are now 11-1-1 overall.

Jack Lamirande had one goal and one assist, and Aarond Blanchard scored one goal for St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s Don Nomakeo played well in goal, collecting 15 saves. Saints’ Aidan Burke played well defensively

Monique Lemire (7 aces, 1 kill), Kayla Andrade (3 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces, 2 assists), Kaitlyn Haseltine (3 assists, 2 digs), Chloe Emond (8 digs, 4 aces, 2 assists, 1 kill), and Vicky Burkovskiy (2 blocks, 2 aces, 2 kills) led Southwick’s effort.

St. Mary’s Luke Willenborg and Greenfield’s Ryan Cote tied for the day’s best round of golf at Greenfield Country Club with a 2-over on the par 38.
