WESTFIELD – State police report that troopers are investigating the death of a Chester man who was apparently struck by a train sometime prior to 5:30 p.m.
A spokesperson said that the body of Jacob Stiles, 23, of Chester was found after troopers both from the Russell barracks and the detective unit assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s office responded to a report received at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday of a body near the railroad tracks in the area of Lower Prospect Street in Chester.
The body was reported by the crew aboard a passing CSX train but the crew members did not report that the train had struck the victim nor did the crew of any other trains which had passed by.
The investigators have determined that Stiles was struck and killed by a train but the investigation by both state and local police into the circumstances of the impact is ongoing, the State Police spokesperson reports.
