WESTFIELD – The Westfield Farmers’ Market is currently seeking volunteers for its Management Team as it prepares to open for its 5th season in the of summer 2019 on the lawn of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in downtown Westfield.

The Management Team needs individuals to contribute their time and talents to perform any of the behind-the-scenes tasks necessary to make the market a success: organizing instructional demonstrations by vendors or businesses, creating and managing publicity releases, creating a weekly or bi-weekly newsletter, and recruiting sponsors and donors.  Each person who volunteers assumes responsibility for only a small portion of the entire management process.

The Market is run by a collaborative team of volunteers with a dedication to the Market and a passion for making it a friendly community gathering space, supportive of local agriculture and providing healthy, affordable, locally grown food to the people of Westfield and the surrounding communities.  They do so out of love for the Market and what it offers to the Westfield community, and a commitment to helping it succeed; and they receive joy and satisfaction of a job well done when the Market thrives. They work in cooperation with additional volunteers from the community who set up and take down the Market each week, serve as Market hosts, and process customer SNAP and credit card payments.  The volunteers come from all walks of life and each person contributes his or her time and talents in ways which suit their abilities and schedules.  None of the Market staff is paid for their efforts.

The Team meets only as necessary and communicates frequently by email to avoid unnecessary meeting time. The 2019 season opens Thursday, May  30, and continues until Thursday, October 10, with an additional Saturday for the Westfield Pumpkin Festival.

Anyone who is interested in supporting the Westfield Farmers’ Market should contact the Market Management Team by email at [email protected], leave a voice message at 562-5461 ext. 101, or visit the website at www.westfieldfarmersmarket.net. Vendor applications will be available soon.  Watch the web site for more information.

The final Winter Market of this season is Saturday, February 9, 2019, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Atonement, 36 Court St., Westfield.  Over 20 farm, craft, and food vendors will feature such products as artisan breads, pies, natural honey, homemade fudge, cheese, jams, jellies, scarves, bags, jewelry, books for children and teens, hand-stitched greeting cards, and wood crafts, including chain saw art, and more.  Gift certificates are available.
