Westfield Little Leaguers unleash offensive fireworks

HOLYOKE – The Westfield Little League Baseball 11-12-Year-Old All-Stars are red-hot, whitewashing the competition, leaving their opponents singing the blues.
Westfield completed a holiday weekend with some natural fireworks, routing Holyoke 18-5 Monday. Westfield powered its way to an 18-5 win at Dean Tech behind a 20-hit barrage, scoring in every inning. Twelve players checked-in with hits, led by Jacob Barnes and Zac Cook, who had three each. Logan Csekovsky (2 doubles), Josh Elmer (triple), Nolan Wondolowski (double) and Luke Cummings each had two hits, while Anthony Sanchez finished with four RBIs. Wondolowski went five-plus innings striking out nine Holyoke hitters while scattering seven hits. Westfield improved to 4-1 in pool play.

Thurs., July 1
Westfield 10, Southampton 2

After a shaky first inning, Westfield scored five runs in the second and did not look back, defeating Southampton in a rain-shortened game in pool play. Audrey Amaral provided two-plus innings of no-hit relief. Westfield’s offense was led by Anthony Sanchez who provided a bases loaded double, plating three RBIs. Porter Marchacos tripled and Jacob Barnes doubled. Nick Madsen, Evan Miller, and Chase Mackey contributed with hits.

Westfield 14, Gateway 0

Nolan Wondolowski and Anthony Sanchez combined on a no-hitter, striking out seven batters to improve Westfield’s record to 3-1 in pool play. Sanchez went 3-for-4 at the plate. Jacob Barnes, Josh Elmer, and Porter Marchacos also had multiple hits for Westfield.

Westfield 11, Holyoke 1

Westfield’s 11U All-Star team finished up pool play by beating Holyoke 11-1. Tyler Neal pitched four innings only giving up one run and striking out six. Coen Marchacos led the offensive attack with two hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Neal helped himself out at the plate driving in two runs as well. Alex Miller had two hits and drove in one run. Devin Clark, Jaylen Dean, and Dylan Woering each drove in runs for Westfield. Westfield played great defense behind Neal. Westfield’s double elimination portion of the All-Stars tournament had been scheduled to begin Tuesday night but was rained out.

WESTFIELD LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL 9-10 ALL-STARS
Tues., July 5
Westfield 22, Belchertown 5 (4 inn.)

On Tues., July 5, the Westfield Little League 9-10 All-Star baseball team traveled to Mini Fenway park in Belchertown. The 9-10 team was coming off an 11-0 loss Friday night at the hands of a strong Longmeadow team. Westfield rebounded from that loss with a lopsided 22-5, mercy-shortened victory over Belchertown.
Offensively, Westfield banged out 15 hits and earned 13 walks. The Westfield attack was led by Clayton Cigal, who was 3-3 with a double. Dylan Rozell, Evan Lucas, Drew Bean each had two hits and Jacob Elmer, Dustin Piper, Jadon Buell, Emery Whitaker (triple), Andrew Almeida, and Matty Schortmann all added base hits.
Westfield was led on the mound by Austin Sadowski, who pitched 1.2 innings of shutdown relief. Dylan Rozell, Clayton Cigal, and Drew Bean also pitched well in the victory.
