NORTH ADAMS – Westfield State University posted a hard-fought 2-1 victory over MCLA on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13 for the Owls’ fourth MASCAC victory in five starts.
MCLA now drops to 4-8 (1-4 MASCAC) while the Owls improve to 5-7 (4-1 MASCAC).
The Owls struck first in the 57th minute when Dan Brady took a pass from Kristian Driscoll and scored in the upper left corner of the net.
Joe Mecca evened the score after Tyler Vona’s shot caromed to him. Mecca then touched it past the Westfield defense and keeper Kris Carrington for a 1-1 deadlock in the 64th minute.
Westfield ran down the field four mintues later and found the back on a game-winning goal by MIke Stackhouse.
The Trailblazers outshot the Owls, 16-10, and had an edge on corner kicks, 12-2.
The Trailblazers will take the week off and return to Shewcraft Field for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 20, against conference opponent Bridgewater. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Westfield plays a non-conference game at Rhode Island College on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
