Westfield State falls to Keene

KEENE, NH. – Senior hitter Kendyl Haney (Ashland/Ashland, Mass.) led Westfield State with seven kills, but the Owls fell to Keene State by a final score of 25-19, 25-14, 25-16 in volleyball on Wednesday night.
Westfield jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first game, and held within two points late in the game at 20-18. In the third and final game Keene grabbed a 6-1 lead and extended its lead to 20-8 before finally extinguishing the Owls chances.
Shannon Shea (Chelmsford/Chelmsford, Mass.) and Casey Doremus (Westford Academy/Westford, Mass.) each added five kills for the Owls, and Lizzie Taylor (Medfield/Medfield, Mass), last week’s MASCAC rookie of the week, led Westfield with 16 digs.
Westfield State falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss. Westfield will travel to the Trinity Invitational in Hartford, Conn. this weekend, facing off with Clark University in the opening match at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
