Amherst, 6, Jr. Bombers 2

On the afternoon of Halloween, Westfield’s Squirt 3 Black squad got more tricks than treats in Amherst as they lost 6-2. Amherst got out to a 3-0 lead before the Westfield team matched their energy on the ice. After a shorthanded goal by Mike Miller pulled Westfield closer, Amherst pulled in away in the third. A late goal by Quinn O’Brien and some strong saves by Joey Tymeson made the last few minutes interesting but couldn’t change the outcome. The Squirt 3 Black squad plays two this weekend including the first home game of the season at Amelia Park.

Division: Mite 3

The talk in the locker room before the game was filled with the dreams of the Halloween night to come with costumes to be worn and the candy to be consumed, but as the Mite 3 Black Jr. Bombers took the ice there was no doubt it was time to focus. The Bombers took a few minutes to settle in to the game and quickly fell two goals. Then as if a switch was flipped the Bombers embraced the meaning of teamwork and put on a passing clinic for all those in attendance. With precision and skill beyond their years the Bombers started scoring almost at will, with Treygan Lemanski and Daniel Methe leading the offensive juggernaut with 9 & 5 goals respectively. Connor Laiho added 3, with Milana Shuman and Josh Cormier-Healy each getting 2 goals and Alex Saalfrank netting his first. Carsen Michelucci donned the big pads and had a great day in goal with help from Matty Bussell and Olivia Pinney providing heads up defense. All in all it was teamwork that won the day for the Mite 3 Black Jr. Bombers. – Courtesy of Westfield Youth Hockey
