White shines light on Tigers

WESTFIELD – With the season’s final days here, and darkness approaching earlier every day, the Westfield Technical Academy girls’ soccer team squeezed out another ray of sunshine.
Emily White scored two goals, and Westfield Tech tied Pathfinder 3-3 Thursday at Bullens Field. Heather Lannon also tallied a goal, and assisted on both of White’s scores.
Lannon scored an unassisted goal 40 seconds after Pathfinder took the lead to tie the game 3-3 with three minutes remaining in regulation. She took the ball at the start of the whistle, dribbled through the field, shooting and scoring the game-tying goal.
Diana Solokhina had another solid performance in goal for the Tigers. Solokhina finished with 17 saves.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Bombers tie Pitt
Westfield 1, Pittsfield 1

Matt Butera scored hit team’s lone goal on a penalty kick to put Westfield out front 1-0. Pittsfield knocked in the game-tying goal six minutes into the second half.
Bombers’ goalie Ian Saltmarsh finished with six saves.
Westfield closes out its regular season Saturday at East Longmeadow at 3 p.m.

Palazzi paces Gators
Gateway 3, Sci-Tech 2

Anthony Palazzi led Gateway with two goals. Alex Webb notched one for the Gators, who wrap up the regular season with a record of 9-6-3.

Lamirande nets hat trick
St. Mary 5, Pathfinder 5

Bill Lamirande recorded a hat trick, and Drew Collins tallied two goals for St. Mary. Saints’ Aaron Blanchard finished with two assists, and Tanner Koziol had one.
St. Mary goalie Jacob Butler made 18 saves.

Rams’ contributions net win
Southwick 4, South Hadley 0

Four different players scored to lead Southwick. Brandor Castor, Matt Daley, Evan Haynes, and Mike Sheil each scored for the Rams.
Southwick goalies Nick Chambers (2 saves) and Kyle Demaio (2 saves) combined for a shutout.

FIELD HOCKEY
Brownies silence WHS
Agawam 3, Westfield 0

Agawam exploded past Westfield with three second-half goals. Nina Bruno, Madison Gabel, and Eliza Timms scored one goal apiece for the Brownies.
Westfield goalie Gwen Smith finished with 28 saves.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
West Side holds serve
West Springfield def. Westfield, 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-16

Rudi Spano (33 assists, 3 kills), Jessica Krivolenko (14 digs, 2 aces), Julia Fleury (9 kills, 3 aces), Gillian Pirnie (8 kills, 2 aces), and Choloe Roy (8 kills, 4 aces) propelled West Side at home.
