WILBRAHAM – The Westfield High School baseball team bounced back from a disappointing loss in a big, big way.
Westfield clubbed 20 hits, and put together a 15-1 lead en route to pounding host Minnechaug 16-8 Thursday. The Bombers improved to 2-1.

Westfield’s top four hitters combined for 15 hits. Chris Sullivan paved the way, going 5-for-5 with two doubles. Colin Dunn went 3-for-6 with a home run. Sean Murphy (2-for-3) and Craig Lacey (3-5) were also effective at the plate.
“It’s nice when the bats are working and the wind is blowing out,” Westfield coach Rich Discenza said.
Westfield scored three runs in each of the first three innings, and exploded for five more in the fifth to blow the game wide open.
Westfield pitcher Kenny McLean kept Minnechaug’s bats silent. McLean pitched a two-hitter, striking out nine batters and walking two in 6 1-3 innings.
