WHS girls’ lax rallies; Saints fall

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School girls’ lacrosse team rallied to defeat Monson 16-12 Friday to keep its postseason hopes alive and well.
Trailing 7-6 at halftime, Westfield (5-7) outscored the opposition 10-5 in the second half.
“It was an amazing game, an amazing turnaround, and payback for an earlier loss in the season to them,” Bombers’ coach Paul Fenwick said.
Brittany Hutchinson (3 goals, 2 assists), Ashlee O’Conner (3 goals, 1 assist), and Victoria Whalen (2 goals, 3 assists) paved the way on offense for Westfield.
Bombers’ goalie Tori Meneses collected 10 saves.
“Our defense played excellent again, for the second day in a row,” Fenwick added.
WEST SPRINGFIELD 16, ST. MARY 6
WESTFIELD – Rudy Spano scored four goals to lead West Springfield past St. Mary, 16-6, Friday at Stanley Park.
Lauren Chapdelaine netted a hat trick (3 goals) for St. Mary. Saints’ Aisling Smith, Bella Butler, and Becca Streeter had one goal apiece.
Andrea Watson and Streeter each had one assist.
