The Westfield High School field hockey team closed the book on its regular season with a 0-0 tie on the road at Amherst Thursday night.
Westfield goalies Jenna Rothermel and Karly Mastello combined for a shutout in net, although the Bombers’ defense deserved credit for keeping Amherst from attempting any clear shots on goal.
Westfield (9-6-3), on the other hand, did have several opportunities to score, attempting nearly a dozen shots on net.
“Westfield just couldn’t connect,” Bombers coach Karen Gomez said. Another chapter remains.
“We’re excited for Monday to see where the tournament seedings come out,” said Gomez, whose team improved from a season ago.
The Bombers anticipate a home playoff game, she said.
