WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School softball team shook off all the distractions associated with senior day festivities to edge West Springfield 2-0 Monday.
Westfield scored the game’s only runs in the third inning. Jules Sharon manufactured the first Bombers’ run with a walk, stolen base, and run scored on a fielder’s choice. Jesse Pratt hit an RBI double.
Westfield pitcher Kate Menard pitched a two-hitter. Menard struck out one batter, and walked one.
“The kids got it done,” said Westfield coach Joe Stella, who credited Menard for a vast improvement in her delivery, keeping the ball down in the zone.
Westfield hits the road for its final three regular season games (Agawam, Minnechaug, Amherst).
“Obviously we’ve got some evening up to do with Minnechaug,” Stella said. “Agawam will be chomping at the bit. And Amherst is their senior night. So we might be there for a long time.”
