The season got underway in grand fashion for two local golf teams. Westfield and Southwick-Tolland won their respective season openers yesterday.

WESTFIELD – Koren O’Sullivan shot a 41 to lead Westfield in a season-opening victory at Chicopee Country Club. Bombers’ Taylor Schmidt, Dan Hickson, and Jeremy Doody each finished with a 43.
“The kids played pretty well,” Westfield coach Chris Strycharz said.

SOUTHWICK – Southwick’s Jake Hough led all golfers with a 4-over 40 at Edgewood Country Club. Rams’ Nickolas Labodycz shot a 45, and Joseph Stratton, at the fifth spot, garnered a 47.
Everyone notched at least three points for Southwick (1-0).
“It was a good start to the season,” said Southwick coach Al Selden. “One down, eight to go.”
To qualify for the postseason in 2013, the Rams must win half of its 18-match slate.
