WESTFIELD – A trio of city high school sports teams came up just short in valiant efforts Tuesday. The Westfield girls’ tennis team swept doubles’ competition but fell to Northampton, 3-2, and Chicopee Comp edged the St. Mary girls’ lacrosse team, 10-9.
Also, the WHS boys’ volleyball team fell to Agawam, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Northampton 3, Westfield 2
Westfield came up just short in a home match against Northampton on Tuesday.
Westfield won at first and second doubles – Olga Korobokov and Kayla Therrien enjoyed a 6-2, 6-1 victory; Kayla Reno and Taylor Perry edged Northampton’s Jordan Kuhr and Caitlyn Richmond 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 – but the Bombers could not manage to squeak out any singles’ victories.
GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Chicopee Comp 10, St. Mary 9
The St. Mary High girls’ lacrosse team lost a tough, tough battle, falling by one goal at home to Chicopee Comp, 10-9, at Boardman Field.
Kaylee Krajewski scored three goals, and three others scored two apiece to lead Comp.
St. Mary’s Aisling Smith netted a hat trick (3 goals), Lauren Chapdelaine (assist) and Andrea Watson each scored two, and Miranda Arena and Jillian Watson also had a goal.
Saints’ goalie Carly Woodruff finished with nine saves.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Agawam 3, Westfield 0
Eric Shilyuk (8 kills), John Bucko (6 kills, 3 blocks), Isiah Headley (5 kills, 5 blocks), Ivan Zuev (15 digs), and Chris Paradis (24 assists, 1 ace) led Westfield.
