WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School boys’ volleyball team pulled off an incredible comeback to throw their names back into the ring to become Western Massachusetts’ finest teams.
Westfield rallied from a 2-sets-to-none deficit to defeat visiting Ludlow Monday, 20-25, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22, 19-17. The Bombers’ victory evened the season series 1-1.
It was only the second loss for the Lions, whose previous lone loss came against unbeaten Agawam.
“It was quite a match,” Westfield coach Tyler Wingate said. “We’ve been in a lot of 5-game matches this season. There is no substitute for that experience. Our guys are confident in getting back into the game.”
Ian Wolski (25 kills, 11 digs, 6 blocks), C.J. McMahon (13 kills, 12 digs), and Ivan Zuev (24 digs, 1 ace) paved the way for Westfield, which rebounded from a 3-2 loss to Minnechaug last Friday.
“We kept believing in ourselves, our system, and we got a huge win,” coach Wingate said. “This gives us confidence going forward.”
