SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield State University men’s cross country team placed a close second in the Western New England Golden Bear Invitational on Saturday.
Babson finished first in the 21-team invitational, nipping Westfield by a point, 56-57. RIC was a distant third with 110 points.
Hayden Bunnell of Colby-Sawyer won the meet with a time of 25:40.00 on the 8K course. Junior Mike Kelleher was Westfield’s top runner, placing sixth in 26:50.78.
Junior Cam Fairbanks placed eighth for the Owls, followed by freshmen Tim Shea (12th) and Justin Connolly (13th), and juniors Sean Comerford (18th) and Tevin Honohan (19th).
