WESTFIELD – Senior midfielder Nicole Leonard scored with 1:22 remaining in the second overtime to lift Eastern Connecticut State University to a 1-0 victory over Westfield State University in women’s soccer action on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Eastern Connecticut boosted its record to 4-1 with the non-conference victory; Westfield is now 3-3 with three 1-0 setbacks this season.
The game appeared headed to a scoreless tie, but the Leonard scored the game-winning goal in the box after receiving a nice pass from the right side from Hailey Lehning.
Westfield again outshot its opponent (19-7) but the Owls only had seven shots on goal. Eastern Conn. keeper Rachel Skelton made seven saves and Owl goalie Jess Habif had three saves.
