WILBRAHAM – The Minnechaug Regional High School boys’ lacrosse team pushed Westfield to the limit, but the Bombers passed their latest road test in the nick of time.
Westfield scored two goals in the final quarter to escape Wilbraham with a narrow 9-7 road victory Monday. The game was tied 5-5 at the half, and 7-7 after three full quarters.
Zach Gentle (2 goals, 3 assists) and Sam Scarfo (5 goals) led the Westfield attack. Bombers’ Matt Chlastawa (1 goal, 1 assist) Anthony Sullivan (1 goal), and Mason Balch (1 assist) also contributed offensively.
Craig Ward won 15 of 17 face-offs, setting up the team’s drives.
On defense, Westfield’s Kane Miller, Garrett Matthews, Kevin Chambers, and Mitchell Weiss stood tall. Weiss was particularly effective, limiting Minnechaug’s top scorers from getting loose.
Bombers’ goalie Jake Cupak finished with 11 saves, including several key fourth-quarter stops.
NOTES: On Saturday, Gentle (1 goal, 5 assists), Chlastawa (3 goals, 3 assists), Scarfo (3 goals, 1 assist), Sullivan (2 goals, 1 assist), and Balch (2 goals) fueled the offense in Westfield’s 12-4 win over Peabody … Cupak made 12 saves in that game … Weiss, Miller, Matthews, Chambers, and Joe Graydon anchored the defense … Craig Ward (face offs) and Chris Ward (ground balls) were key contributors, as well.
Comp stomps Saints
Chicopee Comp 14, St. Mary 1
Quinn Wesolowski (4 goals, 1 assist), Brandon Pavoni (3 goals, 3 assists), Brady Seymour (1 goal, 4 assists), and Max Rivera (3 goals, 1 assist) led Chicopee Comp in a rout.
Ashton Bourbonnais tallied the lone St. Mary goal.

Bombers top West Side again
Westfield 26, West Springfield 18
Westfield exploded for a 26-goal game to improve to 5-2 overall, 3-1 league. The Bombers swept the season series, 2-0.
Rachel Gelina (5 goals, 4 assists), Marissa Otero (4 goals), Laura Pay (4 goals), Sam Kane (3 goals, 2 assists), and Nicole Plasse (3 goals) provided the bulk of the Westfield offense.
Maline Kozak made 13 saves in net for the Bombers, who managed the bulk of the draw control over the course of the game.

Cathedral 21, St. Mary 16
Julia Bonavita (9 goals, 4 assists) and Julia Talbot (7 goals, 4 assists) spearheaded a Cathedral victory.
Jillian Watson (5 goals, 4 assists), Lauren Chapdelaine (4 goals, 2 assists), and Aisling Butler (6 goals) led the St. Mary offense.
