HUNTINGTON – Nala Roache and Jesalie Torres combined for 31 points as the Duggan Academy girls’ basketball team exploded for a 17-point third quarter en route to a 34-24 win Thursday night at Gateway Regional High School.
Roache scored a game-high 19 points. Torres netted all 12 of her points on made 3-pointers.
It was a slow start for both teams.
Duggan Academy managed just five points in the first quarter, but held Gateway to two. An evenly matched second quarter – both team recorded four points – left the visitor in front 9-6.
Duggan Academy extended its lead to 26-12 in the third quarter before Gateway rallied late.
Lily Waters led Gateway with eight points. Becca Herman (5 points), Megan Wright (4), Donna Viel (3), Angella Wright (2), Grace Van Buren (1), and Gerri Griffin (1) also scored for the Gators.

Mastello paces Gators
Pioneer Valley Christian 50, Gateway 37
Noah Connor led Pioneer Valley Christian with 14 points, and Matthew Porter had 10 in a home victory.
Shane Mastello scored a game-high 14 points for Gateway. Gators’ Brett Turban (9 points), Jake McKittrick (7), Nate Busher (5), and Paul Kowal (2) also contributed.
McCann downs Saints
McCann Tech 66, St. Mary 55
McCann Tech raced out to a 20-6 lead, and three players scored in double-digits to propel the home team. Jake Tower poured in 22 points, Ethan Sheldon had 14, and Steve Lemire, 10.
Jake Butler (19 points) and Drew Collins (16) combined for more than half of St. Mary’s points (35). Gio DePergola and Andrew Illnicki finished with nine and six, respectively, for the Saints. Jake Willenburg had five.

Granby 32, Southwick 25
Granby pulled ahead in the second quarter to forge a 20-14 halftime lead en route to a narrow victory at home.
Southwick’s Nick Hough scored a game-high 10 points.
