WESTFIELD – Ware scored its third goal against Westfield Voc-Tech in the season series between the two high school boys’ soccer teams, but more surprisingly, all three goals in the two games have come on penalty kicks. The two teams tied 1-1.
“It was a very frustrating 1-1 tie,” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said.
Ware took a one-point lead in the chase for the league title. Voc-Tech must win out and hope the Indians slip up and tie someone down the stretch to become co-champs.
“We were a little out-of-shape chasing their strong midfielders,” Dulude said.
Voc-Tech fell behind when Ware converted a penalty kick, following a borderline call in the box as two players jockeyed for possession of the ball. The Tigers evened up the game on a corner kick.
Voc-Tech is now one point away from qualifying for the postseason.
“Western Mass – that is our next goal in sight,” Dulude said.
