Blanchard, Gezotis lift Saints

Senior Captain Shaun Gezotis scored twice, and had an assist on the go ahead goal in the final minute as the St. Mary High School boys’ ice hockey team edged Greenfield 3-2 Monday evening.
Gezotis tallied a goal in each of the first two periods, as the teams played to a 2-2 draw going into the final period. As the third period began, St. Mary had to kill off a two-man advantage for Greenfield, and did so with timely defense from Austin Wolfe and Val Reopel.
As St. Mary got back to even strength, the teams remained tied deep into the third.
With just under a minute remaining, Gezotis rushed the puck up center ice and took a shot that bounced off Greenfield goalie Riley Drew’s shoulder and on to Aaron Blanchard’s stick. Blanchard then buried the game-winner with 43 seconds left in the game to lift the Saints to 2-1-1 on the season. St. Mary goalie Matt Brady saved 29 of 31 shots to help the Saints climb over .500 for the first time this season.
