WESTFIELD – It was a tough night on the hardwood for area high school basketball teams Monday. The opposition played fast-and-furious. Area teams were left hoping the sequel will net better results.

Beavers block Saints
Putnam 81, St. Mary 13
Putnam stormed ahead 30-2 in the first quarter en route to a big win on the road at Westfield Middle School North.

Angelica Peguero scored a game-high 25 points, followed by Chadian Haywood (19 points), Brianna Metellas (13), and Keindra Golsberry (11).
Madie Donais led St. Mary with six points.
Indians nip Rams
Ware 39, Southwick 36
Makenzie Sullivan scored a team-high 11 points for Southwick.
Pioneers cage Tigers
Pathfinder 49, Westfield Technical Academy 18
Emily White, Jeika Rios, and Faith Young led the charge for Westfield Technical Academy with four points apiece.
Cybercats handle Gators
Sci-Tech 46, Gateway 19
Sci-Tech raced out to a 14-4 lead and led 31-6 at the break. Desiree Crawford led the Cybercats with 12 points.
Gateway’s Becca Herman scored a team-high five. The Gators fell to 4-9.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Butler scores 19 in loss
Pathfinder 71, St. Mary 47
St. Mary’s Jake Butler scored a team-high 19 points. Gio DePergola had 13 for the Saints.
JV GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Southwick 31, Ware 27
Southwick put forth a well-rounded effort with Kathleen Shea leading the way. Shea scored a team-high nine points, and Hannah Burke chipped in seven.

Jenna Benzinger (19 points), Lauren Howard (15), and Maddie Albert (12) fueled Monument Mountain’s offensive outburst.
Westfield’s Olivia Hadla scored 29 points to lead all scorers. Hadla made seven 3-pointers. Bombers’ Casey Almeida added 12.
