SPRINGFIELD – Westfield made it seven straight wins to begin the 2015 regular season, sweeping Sabis in three straight sets Wednesday, 25-15, 25-15, 25-8. The Bombers (7-0) have not lost a set this season in regular season play.
“Our serving was a strength of ours today,” Westfield coach Tyler Wingate said, noting his team’s 16 total aces. “We had a good efficient effort from our hitters as well. They did well managing errors and not allowing Sabis good return opportunities.”
Ryan Bucko (13 kills, 8 aces, 3 blocks), Igor Belokopytov (2 kills, 5 aces), Eric Shilyuk (27 assists, one ace), Ruslan Kontsimal (8 digs, 1 ace), and Mike Zampini (10 kills, 4 digs) were instrumental in orchestrating the Bombers’ victory.
The game also marked the team’s fifth regular season match – and a full-day tournament – in a span of eight days.
“It’s good now to get some practice time after a busy stretch of matches … and work on our offensive and defensive systems,” coach Wingate said.
Westfield returns to the court next Wednesday against West Springfield.
