Bombers’ volleyball unbeaten (6-0)

WESTFIELD – Yes, the Westfield High School boys’ volleyball team is for real.
Westfield knocked off the defending Western Massachusetts champion Chicopee Comp Colts for the second time in five matches, rallying for a 3-2 win at home Thursday. The Bombers won 25-18, 23-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-9 to remain unbeaten at 6-0.
Ian Wolksi had 18 kills, Ivan Zuez contributed 21 digs, and Jared Piubeni finished with 8 kills and 5 blocks to lead Westfield.
“Obviously we’re excited about coming back and finishing well,” Bombers coach Tyler Wingate said. “Our fifth set was strong. We continue to play well even when we’ve been behind. We’ve held strong and fought tough. Guys have stepped up and made some plays at the end.”
Although Westfield may have thrown their hat on to the court as a challenger for the 2013 crown, Wingate said next week’s schedule of games may be a more telling factor. The Bombers play at Ludlow (one loss) Monday at 5 p.m., followed by unbeaten Agawam in the Whip City Tuesday at 6.
