Godette, Westfield State jump into second

WESTFIELD – The Westfield State Owls men’s track team won five events, including two relays, at the Springfield College Open, finishing second out of four teams.
Worcester Polytechnic Institute won the meet with 168 points, followed by Westfield State at 162 points.
Westfield State senior Travon Godette (Orange, Mass.) won the high jump with a final jump of 6-feet-6, one of two field events the Owls won. Senior Zachary Delisle (Chicopee, Mass.) won the pole vault with a jump of 14-feet-5.25.
The Owls also won both the 4×200-meter relay and the 4×400-meter relay events. Freshmen Paul James, Jordanio Oquendo, Esteafan Jack, and Dorian Johnson took the 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:34.29. Edison Perez, Jeremy Forgue, Matthew Bergin, and John Tomlin won the 400-meter relay at 3:30.88.
Perez also won the 60-meter hurdles with a final time of 8.62, while sophomore David Bergin took second at 8.97.
Senior Matthew Moussamih (Fall River, Mass.) placed first in the 1000-meter run, edging out Alex Haji of Springfield College with a time of 2:37.09.
Westfield State travels to Utica, N.Y. on Saturday, December 12 for the Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational.
