Not-so-funny hat trick

HUNTINGTON – The Gateway Regional High School boys’ soccer team outshot visiting Palmer in the second half, but ran into Palmer’s Matt Remillard, who recorded a hat trick Tuesday. The Panthers went on to win 4-0.
Gateway struggled to find the back of the net against Palmer goalie Jake Riel (8 saves).
“We had opportunities but we just didn’t finish,” Gateway coach Tim Gamble said.
Gateway goalie Shane Mastello finished with six saves.
Gateway, which fell to 3-3-1, will look to rebound on the road Friday at Mount Everett.

Belchertown 159, Westfield 161

Jack Hogan shot a 1-over 37 for Westfield, which fell to 5-2 overall, with a narrow defeat at Cold Springs Country Club.

Rams shut out Tigers
Southwick 24, Westfield Technical Academy 0

Southwick improved to 5-1 overall. James Longhi shot a 34 to lead all golfers. Bradley Durand and Jagger Turgeon finished with a 36 and 37, respectively.
Matt Puffer shot a 42 for Westfield Tech, which shot its best round of golf as a team this season.

FIELD HOCKEY
Bombers upend Hurricanes
Westfield 4, Amherst 0

Jordan Bower scored twice, Diana Shia had a hand in three scoring plays (1 goal, 3 assists), and Westfield scored two goals in each half to pick up a nice road victory Wednesday.
Westfield goalie Gwen Smith (4 saves) earned a shutout.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Golden Eagles soar past Rams
Central def. Southwick, 25-16, 25-23, 25-19

Caroline Methe finished with four aces and six assists, and Emily Lachtara collected four digs, two kills, and one ace for Southwick.
Tatyana Medina had 14 assists for Central. Golden Eagles’ Cheyenne Charnick delivered 10 kills.
