Letter: In opposition of Transportation and Climate Initiative

To the Editor,
I am writing to express my opposition to TCI for the following reasons:
TCI would unfairly punish people for using their vehicles in the normal course of their lives by making the cost of fuel even more prohibitive.
If MA adopted TCI it would drive sales from towns near state borders to other states.
This would especially effect sales of lottery tickets.
Increased costs to cities to operate their vehicles would lead to increased property taxes.
The high costs imposed by TCI would not yield a great enough return to justify it.
Our Constitution states “all taxes must originate in the State Legislature”
Respectfully,
Elaine Hebert
