LONGMEADOW – The Westfield High School field hockey team hit a roadblock.
Fresh off a 2-1 win over Agawam last Friday, Westfield suffered a slight setback Monday with a 4-0 loss to host Longmeadow.
Jessie Moriarty scored all four goals for the Lancers. Jillian Scyocurka had three assists.
Still, Westfield goalie Karly Mastello turned back several shots, under pressure all game. Mastello had 16 saves.
“If it wasn’t for Karly, the score would have been a lot higher,” Westfield coach Karen Gomez said. “She did a great job back there and the team was proud to have her between the pipes.”
Westfied’s offense, silenced throughout, made a bigger offensive push in the second half but failed to break through on the scoreboard.
“We need to work a little bit more on our offense, but we had a few fine sparks,” said Gomez. “We just couldn’t connect.”
