WESTFIELD – The Westfield Starfires were unable to claim victory against the North Shore Navigators Tuesday night, falling 11-4 at Bullens Field.
James Flood of the Navigators was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts in seven innings pitched; Aidan Dunn of the Starfires walked away with the loss, recording five strikeouts in five innings on the mound.
North Shore found themselves on the scoreboard early on, scoring four runs in the first inning with the help of two hits, two walks and a defensive error. Westfield trailed the Navigators from that point on, scoring their first run in the fifth inning after putting two runners on base with hits from Danny Crossen and Thomas Joyce.
Determined at-bats and solid defense led North Shore to the victory against the Starfires, but Westfield did have some great moments in the matchup as well.
Starfires pitcher Leif Begelow stepped onto the mound in the sixth inning and struck out all three batters, making it look easy. Another positive for the home team was that they had nine total hits in the game and showed that the bats can come alive; all that is left is to put those runs across the plate.
