Pioneer edges Gateway, 1-0

HUNTINGTON – The Gateway Regional High School boys’ soccer team will get another shot to end the regular season on a positive note, and enter the 2012 playoffs with some momentum early next week.
Gateway (9-4-4), which has been a pleasant surprise for most of the season, fell to Pioneer Valley 1-0 Wednesday. Noah Lester scored a second-half goal for the game-winner.
The Gators will host the St. Mary Saints on senior night Monday at 6 p.m.
Mike Arel finished with 10 saves.

IT’S LADIES NIGHT: The Gateway girls’ soccer team will host Greenfield this afternoon at 4 p.m., with senior night scheduled to take place Friday at 6.

St. Mary 3, Franklin Tech 1
Monica Petersen scored two goals – on passes from Aisling Smith and Darby Bailey – and Taylor Marshall added a score on a brilliant direct kick for St. Mary, which qualified for tournament.
Francesca Debergolo finished with 11 saves in net for the Saints.
