Suns shine brighter than Starfires

PITTSFIELD – The Pittsfield Suns scored four unanswered runs to stave off the Westfield Starfires 7-4 in Futures Collegiate Baseball League action Wednesday night at Wahconah Park.
Pittsfield (7-3) scored one run in each of the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings to pull away from a 3-all tie.
Pittsfield’s Kyle Cronk went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, run and RBI; Matt Malcolm homered, drove in two runs, scored another, and walked three times; and, Andrew Fernandez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run, and an RBI. Jack Cooney had a hit, two runs scored, and three walks for the Suns.
Devin Kellogg led Westfield, going 3-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI. Anthony Clark finished the game 2-for-3 with a RBI.
The Westfield Starfires fell to 4-9.
