WESTFIELD – The Westfield Vocational-Technical High School baseball team’s super season came to a screeching halt.
No. 10 Lee caught the Tri-County League champs on an “off” day, pulling off the upset against the seventh-seeded Voc-Tech Tigers 5-3 Thursday at Bullens Field.
Lee (9-12) took advantage of walks and errors to advance. The visitor also shut down the heart of Voke’s batting order.
The Tigers (13-6) loaded the bases early – one run scored – and managed to put the tying runner on late, but Lee thwarted any kind of rally.
“(I told) the guys after the game … that ‘we win together and lose together,’” Voc-Tech coach Kyle Dulude said. “’We are family no matter what, and will be the Tri-County 2014 champs, and one game like this is not going to define our season.’”
