Westfield Youth Hockey Report

Westfield Squirt Red III 2, Ludlow 2
On Sunday January 31st Westfield met up with Ludlow for a match that would prove to be one of their toughest. Shortly into the first period, Ludlow scored to take the lead against Westfield. A few minutes later Reid Imbriglio scored to tie the game up 1-1 at the close of this period. The second period brought a continuation of the battle for both teams. Ludlow scored during this period, shortly followed by Reid Imbriglio again with an assist from Nolan Lafayette. Liam Barry, Brayden Munger, Case Viamari, Cyler Sgroi and Sean Johnson, all fought hard and made attempts to score on the Amherst goalie. Sarah McMahon, Emerson Trezpacz and Spencer Roy worked hard at getting the puck out of Ludlow’s hands. Gavin Connors played exceptional in goal, making multiple great saves. The final score, 2-2 in the first tie game for the Squirt 3 Red team this season.

Westfield Squirt Red III 9, WTM 2
On Saturday February 6th Westfield Squirt 3 met up with WTM. WTM kept Westfield working and with less than one minute left to go in the first period, Reid Imbriglio scored the first of his three goals for the game. During the second and third period Westfield continued to dominate this game with Nolan Lafayette scoring (3 ), Case Viamari (2) and Cyler Sgroi (1). In a change of positions for the season Spencer Roy was in offense with Liam Barry and Brayden Munger, making fantastic plays while Gavin Connors was on defense, helping out Sarah McMahon and Emerson Trezpacz to keep the puck away from WTM. In net was Sean Johnson, making his second appearance this season. He made fantastic saves and helped ensure the win for Westfield.

WYHlogoWestfield Squirt Red III 6, Amherst 4
On Sunday February 7th the Junior Bombers met up with Amherst in what proved to be one of the most exciting games of the season. It was an evenly matched game from the opening face-off with both teams playing good hockey at both ends of the rink. At the end of the first period the score was tied 1-1 after Cyler Sgroi scored with three minutes left to the period. By the close of the second period, the game continued to be tight, with both teams scoring an additional two goals. Westfield’s Reid Imbriglio and Sean Johnson each put pucks in the net, with assistance from Liam Barry and Brayden Munger. At the start of the third period the score was 3-3. Westfield then took their game to the next level scoring three goals within this period. Two by Reid Imbriglio with help from Emerson Trezpacz and the final goal to ensure the win by Case Viamari. The defense on the team included Sarah McMahon, Spencer Roy, and Nolan Lafayette who played outstanding defense. Gavin Connors was great in net making many saves.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 8, Nonotuck 3

Amelia Park, Squirt B

On Saturday the Jr. Bombers met up with Nonotuck at Amelia Park. Kaitlyn Ondrick got the Bombers on the board first with the Bombers first goal. Nonotuck would answer back with a goal of their own however, before the end of the first period Brannon Miele and Rick Moritko would each score unassisted goals for the Jr. Bombers giving them a 3-1 lead after one. In the second Paul Lawry added the Bombers fourth goal with an assist from Joey Roselli. Brannon Mieli would score Westfield’s next two goals, both assisted by Rick Moritko giving the Jr. Bombers a 6-1 lead after two. In the third Nonotuck would score two goals of their own to cut into the Jr. Bombers lead, however Rick Moritko added two unassisted goals completing the hat-trick and securing an 8-3 victory for Westfield. The Jr. Bombers played great defense all game and Sawyer King was great in the Westfield net making 11 saves.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 4, Amherst 1

Mullins Center, Squirt B

On Sunday the Jr. Bombers met up with the fourth place Amherst team. The Jr. Bombers struck first, fifteen seconds into the game when Paul Lawry scored on an Evan Michellucci assist giving Westfield an early 1-0 edge after one period. In the second period Rick Moritko added an unassisted goal giving the Jr. Bombers a 2-0 lead. Nonotuck would add a goal of their own in the late second period making it 2-1 after two. In the third Joey Roselli scored for Westfield with an assist from Paul Lawry. Rick Moritko added Westfield’s fourth goal with an assist from Brannon Miele and giving Westfield a 4-1 victory. In the victory the Westfield defense was fantastic and Sawyer King was outstanding in net making 19 saves.

Westfield Jr. Bombers 2, FCHA 1

Amelia Park, Squirt B

On Saturday the Jr. Bombers hosted Franklin County for their third game of the season. Westfield got on the board in the late first when Brannon Mieli scored on a pass from Rick Moritko giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead after one. In the second period the Jr. Bombers added to their lead when David Forest scored his first goal of the season assisted by Blake Cavallon and Evan Michellucci. With a two goal lead after two, Westfield would surrender a goal to Franklin County in the third but would hold on to clinch their 10th win of the season.
