Wisnauckas nets milestone 100th point

WESTFIELD – One hundred … 101 … 102 … 103 …. and so on and so on …
St. Mary’s senior Katarzyna Wisnauckas scored her 100th career point but did not stop there. Wisnauckas scored seven points on five goals and two assists in Tuesday’s 13-4 win over Central at Boardman Field.
Skylar Duda and Samantha Moran each netted two goals, and four others scored one apiece.
“I honestly was kind of scared with the season having fewer games as we normally would,” Wisnauckas admitted, “but our team has really stepped up this year.”
Wisnauckas credited her teammates for reaching the milestone.
“We have a lot of underclassmen,” she said. “They have a lot of great talent – – and brought it. It’s made it a lot easier.”
Wisnauckas wasted very few seconds in Tuesday’s contest, stripping the ball away from Central out in front of the St. Mary’s net in the opening minute and delivering it to Duda near midfield. Duda raced toward the Golden Eagles net, weaved around a defenseman and scored.
Central scored consecutive goals to take a brief 2-1 lead. Wisnauckas quickly took matters into her own hands, winning the ensuing draw and taking it the distance before scoring the game-tying goal with 8:11 remaining in the first period.
“I just brought it in, then saw (the goalie) was there so I tried to do opposite side to get it in,” Wisnauckas said.

Less than a minute later, Emma Archambault scored the go-ahead goal for St. Mary’s. Wisnauckas set up Moran for a score. Duda tallied her second goal. Then within a 40-second spurt in the waning minutes of the first period, Wisnauckas scored two more goals. The Saints led 7-2 entering the next frame.
Both teams agreed to play three periods versus the traditional four quarters.
“I’m just proud she finally got it,” St. Mary’s girls lacrosse head coach Grace Ahrensdorf said regarding Katarzyna’s feat. “She set that goal a long time ago and worked hard to get there. It was fun to celebrate with her.”

Westfield boys volleyball head coach Tyler Wingate said he thought that “just the time over (last) couple weeks to train hard in the gym and improve” proved to be the difference in the second meeting.
“Our passing really allowed us to utilize all our hitters and keep Comp off balance,” coach Wingate explained. “Even though we’ve been getting good results, we are still looking for that consistency.”
Westfield improved to 8-1 overall, 6-1 North.
