SOUTHWICK – The Southwick-Tolland Regional High School softball team shut out Westfield Voc-Tech 18-0 Tuesday to inch closer to the Western Massachusetts Division II tournament. The Rams, at 9-4, are just one win away from qualifying for the postseason.
Although Westfield Voc-Tech lost by three touchdowns (minus the extra points), Tigers’ coach Kyle Dulude was upbeat in his postgame interview.
“I thought Megan (Illnicky) did a good job throwing strikes, allowing Southwick to put the ball in play,” Dulude said. “Unfortunately our defense played below average today, I give Southwick credit for swinging the bats well. Their third baseman made some great plays today as well.”
“I felt like we did put the bat on the ball very well at times,” he added. “Unfortunately our line shots were right at them or they made nice plays.”
“I feel our girls learned a lot from today’s game and even though the score wasn’t as close as we liked, there was still value to us to play it from a learning perspective. Our next two days will have a lot of meaning.
Voc-Tech now sits at 8-3.
