WESTFIELD – Tanner Hart scored his second goal of the game with 19.7 remaining in the third period off a rebound of a Reilly Siart shot, propelling St. Mary to a 2-1 win over visiting Greenfield in a home opener Wednesday night at Amelia Park Ice Arena. The Saints came out strong in the first, putting casino online ten shots on Greenfield goalie Finn O?Connor, while the Green Wave only managed five against Saints goalie Val Reopel.
However, the period ended in a 0-0 tie.
Greenfield finally broke through against Reopel at 3:18 of the 2nd, as Zack Gyster slipped a backhand past the sprawling Saints goalie to put the Green Wave up 1-0. But again, the Saints would assert their dominance and pepper O?Connor with more shots. Hart finally cashed in off a Johnathan Spear shot to knot the game back at 1 apiece halfway through the second.
The Saints then received three consecutive major penalties, leaving them playing shorthanded for a stretch of six minutes. Four of those minutes were spent down two players. But the Saints penalty kill came up huge, as they killed all three penalties off.
With the clock winding down, Siart found the puck on his stick and took off into the offensive zone. His shot glanced off O?Connor?s shoulder and Hart was there to deposit it into the back of the net for the game-winning goal. The win evened the Saints record at 1-1 on the young season, with Reopel earning his first win in a Saints uniform.
